I have been going to Izakaya Tomo for years and the food has been consistently superb. Their takoyaki is the best in Edmonton – just the right amount of crispiness on the outside with an umami-rich flavour overall. It’s a must-have every time I go! The atmosphere and decor is perfect. Dark stained wood surrounds you along with subtle Japanese brews on display. The sushi we ordered was (from left to right in picture) Sakura roll, Calamari roll, Tempura shrimp roll and they were some if not the best rolls we have ever had in Edmonton! Fresh ginger which was spicy as it should be, wasabi was mild but that’s okay. Sakura was a favorite. We also had room for some takoyaki and green tea ice cream.

The takoyaki was the only thing we were disappointed with, it was not hot or fresh in that respect and was overflowing with sauce. It should be crispy, steaming hot and the bonito flakes should be welting from the heat. As you can see, there was a pool of sauce leftover from the takoyaki. Otherwise, a very good experience and super friendly staff that took heed of our comment about the takoyaki and apologized. Would recommend to anyone!!(Google reviews)

The setting of this restaurant is super cozy. We had a little quadrant that made me feel like I was in Japan. The sushi tasted delicious. Takoyaki was decent but a bit saucy.
